Peterborough MP visits 4KS Forklift Training Centre

Peterborough MP Praises Forklift Center’s Youth Employment Initiative

A special visitor recently attended Peterborough’s 4KS Forklift Training Centre, in the form of Peterborough MP Paul Bristow. The visit was enabled by local councillor Ishfag Hussain, who extended the invitation for the MP to experience Peterborough’s state-of-the-art forklift training centre in person; to hear about the company’s extensive and varied training programme and current initiatives for tackling unemployment within the local community.

The visit involved a tour of the site, and explanation of the different types of trucks on offer at 4KS Forklift Training; including Reach trucks, counterbalance, PPT, scissor lifts and Bendi/ Flexi trucks. There was even an opportunity for the MP to get hands on and take a seat in one of the company’s counterbalance forklift trucks, offering him the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be in the shoes of a lift truck driver.

MP Paul Bristow showed a huge interest in 4KS Training Centre’s plans to move forward and help the community through offering free training to young people. He expressed the programme as “tremendous” and acclaimed the company for taking the lead in promoting young people into work.

This could potentially give 20 young people, who are still unsure what they want to do, a skill for life. When you look at the number of fork lift operator vacancies in and around Peterborough, this is almost like a guaranteed job.

It left such an impression that he presented the idea as a proposal for the local job centre plus to adopt saying, “…we can be more ambitious. Local companies needing drivers could use the Kickstart scheme, and the £1,500 that comes with it, to train young people on universal credit to become drivers with their company. This could help fill these vacancies and give young people a chance to excel in a new career!”.

In support of this, the training centre are now offering a further free 20 forklift licences for young people out of care, to develop their skills and raise their career prospects through their diverse forklift training courses.

4KS Forklift Training is a RTITB accredited forklift truck training centre offering training courses for candidates who are looking to build their forklift operator career and get a forklift licence. We offer training at our fully approved and accredited training centres both in Peterborough and Birmingham, as well as, on-site training at company premises for companies who want their employees trained at their premises.
